What would it be like if consoles were now rented instead of being purchased?

I’ve heard that Sony is removing physical games but the upcoming PS6 (console) is still yours to keep, instead what would happen if you can’t even own the hardware itself (again, a subscription to borrow it otherwise they’ll brick it or seize it from you).

As in, if you didn’t return the PS6 within 30 days: they ban your account or brick the hardware and worst of all, the officials just repossess it from you. More like $900 a month to rent it (can’t own the console, borrowing it from them for a subscription).

How would this hypothetical be enforced? Stores will collect personal information to contact a third party on sending you the PS6 to borrow it for 30 days (after that, it must be returned back to Sony or they’ll render your unit a brick for eternity).

Them deliberately not wanting you to own their games (phasing out discs) by pushing digital only content isn’t helping, but at least for now the PS6 hardware is yours. What would happen if game consoles are rented rather purchase to own?
